The United States and China have agreed to suspend their port charges on vessels with a U.S. or Chinese connection (nexus) for one year, effective from 10 November 2025. This follows trade discussions in late October 2025.

The U.S. will suspend measures targeting China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding sectors. At the same time, the U.S. will continue negotiations with China and cooperate with South Korea and Japan to strengthen the American shipbuilding industry. China has confirmed that it will, in return, suspend its countermeasures against US vessels. It is as yet unclear what will happen to tariffs already applied between 14 October and 10 November 2025.
