NNPC Marine Insurance has received a “Notice of Cancellation” from its reinsurers in respect of war risks cover in relation to Charterers’ Liability, P&I Fixed and the additional P&I War Cover concerning the Red Sea.
With effect from 00:00 hours GMT on 16 August 2026, cover will be excluded under these policies insofar as such cover relates to the following areas in the Red Sea:
- the Red Sea south of latitude 25°30’N;
- from the Yemen border at 16°38.5’N, 53°6.5’E to the high seas point at 14°55’N, 53°50’E;
- a line from the high seas point at 14°55’N, 53°50’E to the high seas point at 10°48’N, 60°15’E, and then to the high seas point at 6°45’S, 48°45’E;
- from the Somalia border at 1°40’S, 41°34’E to the high seas point at 6°45’S, 48°45’E.
This is with the exception of coastal waters up to 12 nautical miles offshore, excluding Bab el-Mandeb, the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia insofar as it falls within the aforementioned boundaries, or the Yemeni coast.
As this situation may develop further, we advise you to monitor developments closely and to avoid passages through the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea as far as possible, where possible.
